Pete Postlethwaite as the bandleader in Brassed Off

Pete Postlethwaite is a sad loss to global film.

I’m pleased for him that he achieved an international profile through his work in Hollywood and it’s probably a bit selfish of me perhaps, but I prefer to remember him in British films like Brassed Off (1996) and Among Giants (1998) and most of all as the Dad in Terence Davies’ Distant Voices, Still Lives (1988) – one of the most riveting performances I’ve ever seen.
