Christopher Nolan’s new epic biopic was filmed on 70mm IMAX: 70mm: 35mm: and digital. The cinematographer was Hoyte Van Hoytema. The film is available in Britain on 70mm IMAX: 70mm: and 35mm. Those ignoring Nolan’s own preferences can also see it in a digital version.

The nearest 70mm IMAX in the North is The Printworks in Manchester (London has two); accessible by pretty poor rail connections from Leeds. Barnsley Parkway commence 70mm screening tonight and on into next week. Bradford Media Museum no longer have 70mm IMAX but are screening it in 70mm in August. And the Sheffield Showroom commences 35mm screenings this weekend.

No sign of any of these formats in Leeds; The Hyde Park Picture House have the title but their 35mm projectors are not yet ready. The real failure is Picturehouses’ City Screen in York. Some of their venues are screening either 70mm or 35mm; York apparently has both formats but only a digital version.

So, a rare opportunity to see the best visual screen quality around at this time.
